This study aims to explore the humor techniques used in memes shared within the Menjadi Bapak-Bapak Facebook group. The purpose of this research is to identify how humor is constructed and what techniques are commonly used to entertain and express the experiences of Indonesian fathers.
The study applied a qualitative descriptive method, focusing on the analysis of written language in memes. The data were collected using a non-participant observation method and analyzed using Sudaryanto’s (2015) referential and distributional techniques to examine both the meaning and linguistic form. Arthur Asa Berger’s theory of humor was used as the analytical framework, focusing on three main types of humor: language-based, logic-based, and identity-based.
The findings show that out of 50 memes analyzed, 23 used language-based humor, 16 used identity-based humor, and 11 used logic-based humor. Language-based humor was the most dominant, as members often played with words to create jokes. Identity-based humor also appeared frequently, reflecting the group’s shared experiences as fathers or husbands. Logic-based humor, while less common, still contributed to the variety of humor styles found in the group. Overall, the results highlight how humor serves as a creative and relatable form of communication in online communities.
